The past year was full of changes, for all of us. This year felt like it took forever, then the last few months have flown by. I feel like I haven’t had a chance to catch my breath, and reflect. Reflect on everything that 2020 has handed us, the good and the bad. So I am sharing the 5 Things to Let Go of Before the New Year with you friends.
Since the new year is approaching, I think we need to let go of anything we feel is holding us down. 2021 is going to bring amazing things, so let’s make some space for the good.
January is a time for us all to hit reset. Starting fresh is amazing feeling, I think that’s why I liked moving around as a military family. I could reinvent myself with each move. making new friends, and exploring new places, it became part of our routine. But I am a true believer in reflecting on what may have held you back. that is important if you want to succeed, and crush your goals. If you are ready to start a new year fresh, focus on what you need to make room for, then here are some things to let go of in 2021.
I am so guilty of this one, to the point it can be hard for me to remember how to relax. Do you create to-do-lists that you can’t keep up with? Do you say ‘yes’ to everything, because after all your super woman right? You have super powers that ensure you can finish everything you sign up for, even if it’s not humanly possible?
So cut yourself some slack in 2021! You don’t have to say yes it’s ok to just say no. Don’t feel guilty, you need to prioritize your time, and that means sometimes you need time to just be.
My mom once told me I am no good to anyone if I don’t take care of me first. No truer words have ever been spoken to me! Remind me to tell my mom she is a genius! When I started taking the time to take care of me, I was happier, and so were those around me. You need to make sure that you don’t put yourself last. Taking care of your physical and emotional health is so important. Don’t cancel that doctors appointment because you have eight loads off laundry to do. Get your hair done, if it makes you feel pretty. Don’t feel guilt friend, own what you deserve, you work hard!
Sometimes we feel so overwhelmed with all the things, that we shut down. Clear out your spaces, and your mind will feel at ease. There is no better feeling then to clean out that junk drawer, or over-flowing closet. The weight of all those things you don’t need or never use, will make you feel so much lighter.
If 2020 has taught us anything it’s we can’t control everything. Stress will always be a part of our daily life, and it’s the hard reality that we cannot control most of what happens each day. You never know what’s around the next corner, or how things will go. So one piece of advice, let go of the need to control everything. it can be exhausting and won’t help anything. Accept what you can control, your actions and reactions, and let the rest go. You may not be able to control every situation, but you can control how you react to it.
If there is anyone in your circle that does not bring you joy, hit unfollow. Now this is a way easier task online then in every day life, but it needs to be done. People have a way off making you feel less than, if that is the case life is too short. You don’t need them, you need to be surrounded by people who love you for you. So if you are following someone on social media who always has you thinking there life is easier, or better, then yours, cut them out. negative friendships are another thing to purge. There are people who prey on others, and they know it. They are calculated and trust me they will use you and dispose off you, so just say goodbye. You deserve better, friends should always be there for you, not just when they need something from you.
