Join me as I share our 7 Days on the Outer Banks: Our Family’s Adventure. The Outer Banks of North Carolina is a popular vacation destination for families, and for good reason. With its beautiful beaches, charming towns, and endless opportunities for outdoor adventure, there’s something for everyone on the OBX.
We stayed at Airbnb 2432 South Virginia Dare Trail Nags Head NC, which was a great home base for exploring the area. This was only a 4 minute walk to the beach, and very affordable for it’s location.
This was a 4 bedroom, 5 bed vacation home, with 3.5 half baths. The views were amazing, and even though you are not beachfront, you can still see the ocean from the third floor balcony.
Everything we needed was onsite: laundry, kitchen accessories, grill, and so much more. We spent hours playing games, cooking, and truly enjoying our vacation with each other!
You are a quick walk down the road to the Red Drum Tap House, great for dinner and drinks. If you want something sweeter you can pop over to Booty Treats Ice Cream & Shaved Ice.
I have to recommend Mulligans, we ate there and the service and food was amazing!
Duck Donuts is a must have treat when you are in North Carolina!
We enjoyed shopping and grabbing some Jockey’s Ridge Ice Cream!
Here are some of the highlights of our trip:
Of course, no trip to the Outer Banks would be complete without spending some time on the beach. We spent hours swimming, sunbathing, and building sandcastles. We also went for a few walks along the beach, and we even saw some dolphins swimming in the distance.
This is one of the most popular attractions on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Standing 156 feet tall, it offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding area. Visitors can climb the 214 steps to the top of the lighthouse for a closer look at the lantern room and the Fresnel lens.
Visiting the Wright Brothers National Memorial
The Wright Brothers National Memorial is a must-see for any history buff. We learned about the Wright Brothers’ experiments with flight, and we even got to climb up the Kill Devil Hills Lighthouse.
Jockey’s Ridge State Park is home to the tallest natural sand dune on the east coast of the United States. We hiked to the top of the dune and enjoyed the amazing views of the surrounding area.
Nags Head and Manteo are two of the most popular towns on the Outer Banks. We spent a day exploring each town, and we enjoyed shopping, dining, and just wandering around.
Going fishing
We went fishing a few times during our trip, and we had a lot of fun. We caught some small fish, but we also saw some dolphins and pelicans swimming around.
This was a fun and unique way for us to create memories that will last a lifetime. Our teens dressed up in old-fashioned beach costumes with props, and posed in classic scenes from the past.
This was a great way to let loose and have some fun, while laughing so hard we could barely stand it.
Mini golf is a fun and affordable activity that the whole family can enjoy. There are many different mini golf courses on the Outer Banks, each with its own unique theme and challenges.
We went to Pirates Island Adventure Golf in Corolla: This 18-hole course is themed after a pirate adventure, with obstacles like waterfalls, cannonballs, and even a pirate ship.
We had an amazing time on our family vacation to the Outer Banks. We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing vacation.
