You don’t have to worry about spending a ton on buying books. You can usually find these at thrift stores or at the Dollar Tree. Since we will be painting them we don’t need to worry about the color or contents.

Step #1: Painting

Be sure that you use chalk paint, if you can. It is super thick and will give you the best coverage, and need less coats.

We typically only need two coats to get the look we are striving for.

Our favorite chalk paint can be bought at Michaels or at Walmart.

Step #2: Second Coat

I would recommend you wait for paint to dry completely in between coats.

Be sure both coats are dry before moving on to the next step.

You can get creative and paint any color you want, for any season.

Step #3: Sanding

Now comes the fun part! Time too sand, you do not have to do this step, just if you are looking for an aged look.

Books tend to peel and crack over time, so this will give that true vintage look.

You can always peel off the binding of the book before you paint as well. This gives a real aged look and can look amazing once you paint.

You can do as little or as much sanding as you like. I have even taken a sander to the edge of books.

Make sure to go down the creases and edges.

Where time would wear on books after years of use.

Step #4: Decorate Books

Now its time to decorate. This is the fun part, let your creative juices flow.

We found some amazing blush ribbon at Michaels on the Christmas clearance this year.

I am always on the lookout for sales of items I can use in other seasons.

Can you believe it was 80% off and under $2 each???

You can easily tie a bow around the books in a bunch.

Another fun idea is to hot glue on some decor.

For Valentine’s Day you could even add some hearts or colored floral around the top of the bow.

I love a good DIY project, and helping people create warm and cozy spaces in their homes. So if your someone who is ok with me being a hot mess express, a legging wearing, top bun sporting, kind of girl, then let's be best friends! You can never have enough friends right? I am a natural born nurturer, who always leads with my heart. I have learned it is ok to say no sometimes! My advice to you, take chances, in the end, you will regret the chances you did not take.
